Apra Utah was founded in 1997 by six women: Kari Dinley Kimball, Heidi Reid, Marilyn Ryan, Eleanor Thomas, Kathy Wood, and Lynn Ward. All but Marilyn, who passed away in 2017, are still working in Advancement today. This year - 2022 - we are celebrating our 25th anniversary! I was fortunate during my time at the University of Utah to be trained by Kari Dinely [Kimball], a prospect researcher out of Cal Berkley, who was one of the early pioneers in the field, and the first to bring it to Utah. I did prospect research for the U of U from 1992-1996, then until 1998 at McKay-Dee Hospital Foundation. I attended APRA conferences over the years and they were amazing... There were very few of us doing prospect back in 1997, and it was right about the time I was phasing out of the career to be a full-time mom... It’s fabulous APRA is going strong in Utah 25 years later!! It was such a new field when I started. ~Kathy Wood, Founding Board Member This brings back many happy memories of working with Kari to get Research Utah formed. (That was the initial name of the group.) During our first year of programming, we were teaching people how the use the web to conduct research! ~Lynn Ward, Founding Board Member |
